Designy v pohybu: EUIPO zapsal první 3D a video průmyslové vzory

EU design protection is entering a new era. Following the final stage of the EU design reform, which became applicable on 1 July 2026, the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) has published its first registered designs represented by video and 3D files. In simple terms: designers are no longer limited to showing their creations through a series of static images. They can now present certain designs in a way that is much closer to how users actually see and experience them.
From animated apps to products you can view from every angle
The first video-represented EU design protects an animated graphical user interface for a mobile game, demonstrating that movement and visual transitions can now form part of how a design is presented. The first 3D-represented registration covers a dice tray with a mobile phone holder, allowing the product to be viewed from multiple angles. And applicants are already testing the new possibilities: in the first half of July alone, EUIPO received 37 design filings using video and 20 using 3D representations. Static images are not disappearing anytime soon — more than 4,300 designs were still filed using traditional views during the same period — but applicants now have more tools to choose from.
What does this mean for designers and businesses?
The change could be especially useful for digital interfaces, animations and products whose appearance is difficult to capture in a handful of still images. Choosing the right representation matters: it helps define what the registration protects and can therefore influence the value of the resulting design right.
