EU to Young Creatives: We’ve Got Your Back

Young creatives across Europe are getting a long-overdue boost. On 13 May 2025, EU culture ministers adopted conclusions focused on supporting young artists and professionals in the cultural and creative sectors — with a strong emphasis on education, digital tools, and protecting intellectual property rights.
Creative Talent Needs More Than Inspiration
The cultural and creative sectors are full of potential — from design and music to digital content and visual arts. But for young people entering these fields, the practical side of a creative career is often a challenge. EU ministers recognised that many young professionals lack access to knowledge around entrepreneurship, finance, legal rights, and the tools needed to protect their work. Their call to action? Encourage Member States to strengthen arts education by adding real-world topics like copyright, intellectual property, fair pay, and even AI literacy.
Intellectual Property = Long-Term Protection
The Council’s conclusions highlight a growing need for young creatives to understand and enforce their rights. Copyright and related protections are essential to ensuring artists and cultural professionals are fairly recognised — and compensated — for their work. The move aligns with broader EU efforts, including those by the EUIPO, to make intellectual property more accessible and actionable for younger generations.
